Examples overview
Real-world examples and recipes for common Astra Scout automation scenarios.
This section is a library of scenarios that bridge the gap between basic commands and production-ready automation. While the reference explains how each command works, these pages focus on implementation patterns and on technical hurdles such as system-level interactions, dynamic content, and scalable architecture.
All flows use the Maestro flow YAML syntax. To run one, open it in Astra Scout, connect a device, and run it. See Run flows.
Implementation recipes
Targeted solutions for specific technical requirements:
- Choose images from the gallery: the sequence needed to navigate out of your app, use the system photo picker, and return to your flow.
- Check the clipboard content: verify that your app copied text or a link to the device clipboard, using the system search field.
- Download and open a file: handle "save to device" flows and verify that a file such as a PDF opens.
- Custom scrolling for screen fragments: scroll in layouts where only part of the screen moves.
- Get the last matching element: target one instance of an element when several identical items appear in a list.
- Implementing the Page Object Model (POM): separate selectors from test logic to reduce maintenance.
- Reset device state (Android): clear stale media and downloads so each run starts clean.
Real-world examples
- Smoke test the iOS Settings app: a minimal flow from Astra Scout's own samples, and how to grow it into a small suite.
- Automate the Android Contacts app: create contacts with random data in a system app.
INFO
Maestro's documentation also has examples for the Facebook sign-up flow and the Wikipedia app. They are not included here, because they depend on third-party apps and a separate sample project.
